About the job

In this fast-paced role, you will drive the safety culture of ARaymond as part of a world class manufacturing facility.   You’ll join a team at the beating heart of our company’s daily operations and you’ll feel valued for what you bring both as a person and a professional.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Liaise with plant management and supervision regarding adherence to the Health, Safety and Environmental policy and promotion of a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and programs at the Hamilton, Canada facility. 
  • Manages the ISO 14001 program and drives any improvements in the program. The individual will be the primary contact and lead the audit including the implementation of corrective actions on behalf of the Hamilton facility.
  • Conduct Safety & Environmental orientations with new employees.
  • Champions the Joint Health & Safety Committee and serves as the Company’s Management Co-Chairperson.
  • Working with Plant Supervisors, assists in the timely completion of Injury and Incident reports, and jointly participates in the investigation of occurrences including the completion of the 5-Why root cause analysis.
  • Identifies trends / patterns related to all incidents and works with the Joint Health and Safety Committee in determining corrective measures.
  • Provides safety related metrics on a monthly basis including TRIR, near misses etc.
  • Arranges for any internal or external safety training (JHSC certification, Fork Lift, Sky Jack, etc.).
  • Coordinates and tracks the Hazardous, Non-Hazardous waste removed from site.
  • Support waste management including tracking, registration, sampling and auditing in accordance with regulations. 
  • Responsible to work with contracted third parties to complete annual MOE reporting obligations (i.e. NPRI/TRA/ECA Updates). 
  • Overall responsibility to promote health & safety and environment through various methods (i.e. safety talk program, electronic media presentations, posters, awards etc.
  • Serves as the plant ambassador for all Corporate Social Responsibility activities including collection of data; reporting; environmental initiatives etc.

Experience/Skills/Qualifications

  • College or University graduate with a background in Health, Safety & Environment, Human Resources or equivalency.
  • 5 + years’ experience in a health, safety and environmental specialist role in a manufacturing setting.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to health and safety including but not limited to, Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
  • Joint Health and Safety Certification is a must.  In addition, Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex HSE issues.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills. Able to interface and deal well with all levels of the organization.  Proven ability to seek the valuable input from all stakeholders when arriving at solutions for the operations.
  • Ability to adapt, manage multiple projects and prioritize work with follow up through to completion and successful implementation.
  • Computer-literate with experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
