SUMMARY:

The Purchasing Manager - Metal and Coatings is responsible for supervising the procurement of materials and supplies essential to the organization’s operations. This role focuses on the acquisition of coil strip steel, coatings, platings, finishes, other metals, and related components, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing while maintaining strong vendor relationships and accurate records.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategy development and cross-functional coordination for purchases of coil strip steel, coatings, platings, finishes, other metals, and related components.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, surcharge indexes, and other related items.
  • Ensure procurement objectives meet/exceed criteria that are critical to production and operations.
  • Manage RFQ, pricing, and supplier development of products produced by contract manufacturing metal stamping vendors.
  • Ensure accurate and organized records of cost savings, and management of VA/VE projects cross-functionally.
  • Monitor vendor performance and coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely and satisfactory delivery of goods.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand material requirements and adjust purchasing plans accordingly.
  • Lead the steel commodity’s global key category management. Facilitate communication and strategy across ARaymond’s global cross-functional network.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate purchasing staff to ensure high performance and adherence to company policies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the purchasing function.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing roles, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and vendor management.
  • Experience with materials such as steel and coating preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO or other quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and demand planning.

 

NON-REQUIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM, or APICS).
  • Frequent sitting.
  • Use of computer with repetitive mouse use, keyboarding and visual demands.
  • Must be able to work in the office (currently 3x/week) for collaborative purposes
  • Accuracy and integrity of work.
  • Ability to continually develop skills and adapt to new technologies and techniques.
  • Annual performance appraisal.
  • Timely Completion of assigned tasks and annual goals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent sitting.
  • Use of computer with repetitive mouse use, keyboarding and visual demands.
  • Must be able to work in the office for collaborative purposes
  • Travel up to 10% annually
