About the job

Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipments. Requisitions transportation from freight carriers to ship plant products by performing the following duties. 

 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Reads shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transportation needed. 
  • Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products. 
  • Performs other clerical tasks such as inputting bills of lading, typing correspondence, keeping files, and sending ASN’s. 
  • Compares identifying information and counts weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. 
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. 
  • Posts weights, shipping charges, and communicates as needed. 
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. 
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. 
  • Assist with other shipping department duties as time allows. 
  • Support the E, H & S Coordinator in ensuring the environmental management system requirements are properly implemented and maintained in concert with the environmental policy. 
  • Capable of using Excel, Word, MRP & other related software. 

 

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
